About BigCommerce
BigCommerce is designed for a store that expects to get bigger, and its ceiling shows in what is published: limits well above small-business scale, a structured catalogue, and staff roles for more than one person working on it. A merchant who is already selling and expects to keep growing has room to do so without changing platform.
The fee structure is better than its reputation. The two per cent charge that appears in comparisons applies only when a payment provider outside the embedded list is used, and that list runs past twenty names including its own gateway and the two most common ones. For most merchants it is zero.
The catch is the escalator. Past a published trailing-twelve-month sales threshold the entry plan upgrades automatically to the next tier, which costs nearly three times as much. That is a real and documented step-up, triggered by success rather than by a renewal date, and it is not the sort of thing a reader budgets for when comparing headline prices.
