About Webstudio
Webstudio treats the way out as a feature rather than an afterthought. The site it generates is open source, and the documentation covers hosting it yourself on five platforms including a container. What you take away is an application that still runs, not an archive of markup. The vendor draws the line honestly too — the sites are fine to self-host, the builder itself is not recommended for it.
The styling model is exposed rather than wrapped. Design tokens are the primary primitive and follow a published specification, importing from a design tool's variable exports; every stylesheet property, your own breakpoints, custom fonts and a component library are checked on every tier including the free one. The search surface is equally complete: both kinds of redirect, a sitemap, schema markup, social fields, metadata, indexing control and page language.
The cost is who this is for. The vendor's own framing puts agents before humans, the documentation is written in stylesheet properties and breakpoints, and support is a single community row checked identically on all three plans — no vendor-staffed channel exists at any price, and it takes a 1 for support on that basis. There is no native blog either; content comes from an external system, and those rows read as builder-only on the free plan.
