Comparison

Gumroad vs Lemon Squeezy

Two stores with no subscription, funded by a slice of what you sell. One slice is roughly twice the other and cannot be reduced.

Neither charges a monthly fee. Both take a percentage instead, which makes this an unusually clean comparison: the entire commercial difference is one number and whether it can ever change.

The cut, and whether you can escape it

Gumroad takes ten per cent plus a fixed charge on a direct sale — close to thirteen once card processing is counted — and thirty per cent on anything that arrives through its own discovery marketplace. No plan reduces any of it, because there are no plans. A seller taking a little and a seller taking a lot pay the same rate.

Lemon Squeezy charges five per cent plus the same sort of fixed charge, with no subscription either. That is roughly half, on the same arrangement, with the same absence of a monthly bill.

The fixed part matters at the bottom end: on a very small sale the flat charge dominates the percentage on both, which is worth checking if you sell things priced in single figures.

What you get besides the checkout

Both attach a domain you own, so neither traps the storefront at the vendor's address.

The difference is what surrounds the sale. Gumroad acts as merchant of record for sales tax and carries an audience list you can broadcast to, so it is a shop and a mailing tool in one. What it does not document is any way to export the storefront itself — the audience can leave, the pages cannot.

Which should you choose?

Choose Gumroad if the discovery marketplace is worth the premium to you, or you want the audience tooling in the same place as the checkout and expect volumes where a few points do not decide anything.

Pick Lemon Squeezy if you are selling steadily, because the same arrangement at roughly half the rate compounds — and neither of them will ever offer you a plan that lowers it.
