Format

Format is aimed at photographers and illustrators who need a portfolio that works as a working tool rather than only a showcase. Galleries are the primary unit, private client proofing is part of the product, and prints or downloads can be sold without a commission on top. For a working photographer, that combination sits in one subscription instead of three.

Connecting a domain already owned is documented with no plan gate, so the cheapest paid tier publishes on an address the reader controls. Domain registration through the vendor is a separate yearly charge, waived for the first year on the middle tier and above.

The catch is pricing that needs reading twice. The middle tier's advertised monthly rate is a first-year promotional code; the help centre lists the standing annual figure, which works out around a third higher. A branded email address is a further hundred dollars a year on every tier. Neither number appears on the pricing page, and both are the ones that apply from the second year.
