GoDaddy's builder is designed around a single question: how quickly can someone who has never made a website have one. Describing the business produces a complete site with a layout, sections and stock imagery already chosen, and because the company also sells the domain and the mailbox, the parts that usually trip people up are already connected.

That integration is the whole mechanism. The domain, the SSL certificate, the business email and the site are bought from one place and configured for each other, so there is no step where a reader has to copy a DNS record from one tab into another. Support is staffed around the clock, which suits a customer base that phones rather than reads documentation.

The catch is a low ceiling in both directions. The editor works in fixed sections rather than free layout, so sites built with it tend to resemble one another, and there is little room to grow into — no meaningful export, and a feature set that stops where a small brochure site stops. The advertised monthly price also assumes an annual commitment, and the month-to-month rate is considerably higher.
