Both of these are bought by people who care what the site looks like. One hands you a finished thing to adjust; the other hands you the tools and expects you to know what you are doing.
Finished templates against an empty canvas
Squarespace templates arrive looking finished and stay coherent as pages are added, and its global type and colour settings keep a growing site consistent — which is the feature that stops a site drifting into a mess by page forty.
Webflow gives you any layout that could be hand-built, and its Collections generate pages from a shape defined once. Webflow scores 5 for design against Squarespace's 4, and the extra point is the difference between choosing well and building exactly.
Squarespace scores 4 for ease against Webflow's 2. Webflow competence takes weeks rather than an afternoon, and an off-template Squarespace design means custom CSS or a compromise — so neither is unconstrained, they just put the wall in different places.
Where the bill comes from
Squarespace has no free tier at all; the trial ends and a plan has to be bought. Webflow has a free plan.
Then it reverses. Webflow's site plans, workspace plans and add-ons stack into one bill that is larger than the entry price implies, and the stacking is the part people do not model. Squarespace's tiers are what they say they are.
Both export, which is worth noting because several large builders here do not — Wix, the most popular of them all, has no way out at any price. Squarespace scores 5 for support against Webflow's 3, with help available around the clock on every plan. For somebody without a developer on call, that gap matters more than a design point does, and it is the thing most often left out of this comparison.
Which should you choose?
Choose Squarespace if nobody on the project is a designer, you want it live this month, and a template that looks finished is a good outcome rather than a compromise.
Choose Webflow if a designer is doing the work and the layout is the reason you are here — and add up the site plan, the workspace plan and the add-ons before comparing it to anything.
