Square Online is best understood as the web-facing side of a payments company rather than as a website builder that added selling. For a café, a salon or a shop already ringing sales through Square, the catalogue, the stock counts and the customer records are already in the system, and publishing a store means exposing what is there rather than entering it again.

The absence of a monthly fee on the entry tier is the mechanism that makes that worthwhile. A business can put its menu or its stock online, take orders for pickup or delivery, and pay only the card processing it was already paying, which removes the usual decision about whether an online presence justifies a subscription.

The thing to weigh is that almost all of this depends on already being a Square customer. Judged purely as a builder, the design range is narrow, the pages are assembled from fixed blocks, and the plan that unlocks the fuller feature set is priced well above the mainstream builders. A business not already taking payments in person gets the weakest version of the offer.
